[OS X TeX] OT? Apple Software Update

Hello list

I think this is probably a little off topic, so I have marked it as such.

I first found out about the font bug fix from this mailing list. My impression was that the Software Update mechanism that's a part of the operating system was supposed to automatically detect such updates. When I ran the software update from the apple menu the font fix did indeed appear there.

So...the automatic software update tool that isn't automatic?
