That is possible (I do have "Automatic ..." selected), but it doesn't seem likely.

Once this happened, I went back to a previously-typed sequence and retyped part of the word that had already been correctly recognized as English; this second time, it was incorrectly completed from the Italian dictionary.

And, as I said in a follow-up, about 10 minutes later, the system spontaneously reverted to the English dictionary to supply completions.

So it was a brief psychotic break; I've committed my system to a sanitarium for some rest, in the hopes that this won't happen again.
