[OS X TeX] Two problems with TeXworks

I don't have a habit of clicking the dock icon to switch to an open application. My dock is hidden and, furthermore, that's what command-tab and the application switcher is there for. But I think the two methods should be equivalent. This thread has made me realize that they aren't.

 I looked and indeed TeXShop and Safari do open an window when clicked in the dock, if the application is running and no window is open. I, for one, don't think this is appropriate - clicking the dock icon should bring the application to the front, if it is not already. 
Stranger still, even if TeXShop (or Safari) is already the front application, and no window is open, clicking its dock icon opens a new window. That, in my view, is BAD. 
If that is what the Apple user interface guidelines say should happen, I don't know, but I don't agree, anyway. There is a standard way to open a new window (File->New or better still Cmd-N) in ANY application, if and when the user wants it to. 

I now have disabled the preference to open an empty document on startup - thanks for pointing out that the preference setting exists. (Though, like I said, starting should be different from selecting an already running application).
