The following minimal working example demonstrates the problem: the footnote text is ever so slightly wider than the body text. Does anyone have any suggestions (including plain old hacks) for reducing the width of the footnote text to match that of the body? I've done my best to scour the web for ideas but nothing has emerged.

Howdy,
Hmmmm... I typeset the file using latex->dvips->ps2pdf (you rally shouldn't choose the dvips option in geometry since it will assume this in DVI mode by default), enlarged the pdf preview 500% and scrolled right and left lining up the left and right edge of the the characters at either end of the line and still couldn't see a problem. There might be an optical problem because individual letters actually stick outside their defined box.
Good Luck,
