[OS X TeX] Re: pslatex body text width vs. footnote text width

Thanks for the quick suggestions! Using dvips, as Herb suggested, was indeed the culprit, but I'll also look into XeLaTeX, mathptmx, and even memoir (as Alan and William suggested). 

I'm relatively new to LaTeX and in many cases (such as my choice to use pslatex and dvips) have just cribbed from working examples or suggestions. This is my first time having to post a question to this list, and I'm grateful for the help.
