Texdoc is so useful, IMO, after having customised it, that I also use it as "PDF previewer". Actually it can't display anything, but it knows the proper applications. Instead of learning by heart a handful of application names with command line options I use this single tool (like display from ImageMagick or the play command for audio files). For this particular purpose it has the "--just-view" option.
