[OS X TeX] Beamer issue with some themes and xelatex

If I run xelatex on the following minimal example it results in a problem (see attached log) unless I either switch to LaTeX or take out line 2 (\mode....). I am pretty sure this was not the case 6 months ago. 

\documentclass[]{beamer}
\mode<presentation>{\usetheme{CambridgeUS}}
\title{Leonardo}
\begin{document}
\begin{frame}
\titlepage
\end{frame}
\end{document}

Anyone have an idea?
