That on the Mac libfontconfig plays no role for XeTeX and xdvipdfmx! Here these two programmes get their font information from the system (i.e., those fonts you see in Font Book or « Livre des polices ») – similar to the situation on MS Losedos. Font Book also gives you the exact names of the fonts…
So, what you need to do, at least for XeTeX (xdvipdfmx has some means to search TeX related fonts on the disk inside the TeX distribution) is, to create a new font library (Nouvelle bibliothèque, ⌥⌘N) in Font Book and import (with ⌘O) the corresponding fonts.
