Howdy,
No problem using biber with the junk.tex document here. Do you have a ~/.latexmkrc or ~/latexmkrc file with some strange stuff? Biber seems to be looking for a temp file of some sorts in /var/folders/... but it's searching in . which doesn't make much sense. I don't see that at all here.
Enclosed is the log file from the last pdflatex run when using the pdflatexmk engine.
When I open the junk.bib file in BibDesk it complains that the file is being opened in the wrong encoding.
