I use a graphics package (Intaglio) and keep two folders, one where I
save the graphics themselves by using Save and the other for the pdf
by using Intaglio's Save A Copy As with the options "Format pdf" and
"Crop to Content Size".
When I want to edit, I use Save and then Save A Copy As and Intaglio
remembers the location of the pdf.
The only problem is matching the fonts. As I don't really care I don't
know how big an issue it is.

P.S. If I did care---about fonts and more---, I think that I would
learn Tikz. (I am using Tikz-cd for "commutative diagrams" and having
the code right in the LaTeX source is very nice)
