[OS X TeX] MaxTeX or LaTeX or TeXShop? - Problem with < and > symbols

Peter,

You need to identify that portion of text as mathematics; for example

... all paths of length $1 < n < 10$ ...

A good book on LaTeX will make learning and using this great software less
frustrating.
