Not only do you have the usual problem of not finding an error because the typo is an actual word (i.e., not suggesting that “dene” should be the intended “dense” because “dene” is actually a real English word), but a typo can be changed to something unintended. Automatic spell correction in OCR software is notorious for the latter: OCR created editions of classic old novels have been known to make “corrections" to badly scanned words by substituting absurdities such as “WiFi”.

Howdy,

No, no, no... I never want automatic spell checking or, even worse, automatic correction (behind my back).

It’s not lightning fast, but it will spell check beginning wherever I set the cursor, unlike Excalibur, and I avoid a lot of problems in the matter before \begin{document}. It also has a grammar feature that I haven’t yet explored.

Is Ispell LaTeX-aware? Is it really realated, in some way, to Aspell?

I assume that many of those folks use a work flow with a TeXShop Macro set up to save a file, have Excalibur process that file and then ``re-open'' the processed file in TeXShop but I certainly may be wrong. Can folks that use Excalibur let me know how they work with it?
