Howdy,

Certainly not easily and I'm not even sure it can be done. The TeX Live distribution installed by MacTeX has both the x86_64-darwin and universal-darwin set for the binaries and tlmgr will attempt to update both of those as scripts, etc., are updated/installed/removed during the year. On the other hand those binaries are all of 170MB of the 3.83GB of TeX Live 2013 on my system so you're not saving much space. If space is really a concern you can try to install the BasicTeX installation available at <http://www.tug.org/mactex/morepackages.html>.

The other thing you could do is install TeX Live directly. You will miss out in the way MacTeX automatically configures everything and gives you a way to switch between multiple distributions (well, that's broken under Mavericks but will be fixed with the release of MacTeX-2014---whenever that happens) and most GUI applications use the the /usr/texbin symbolic link set up by MacTeX out of the box.
