Howdy,

Maybe I misread it but I thought the installer mounted the <regular boot partition> as an external volume (/Volumes/<regular boot partition>) and moved /Volumes/<regular boot partition>/usr/local to /Volumes/<regular boot partition>/Recovered Items/usr/local and then back on the same file system.
