Hi,

the same happened to me. Dick Koch asked for a minimal
example and when creating it, I found out the reason.
It was the comment < % !TEX encoding = MacOSRoman > in
the first line of my document. This line replaced with
   %! TEX encoding = MacOSRoman
 the command „experiment“ works.
