Howdy,

I'm having a hard time picturing what you are describing. Are you just putting the Source window to the left of your screen and the Preview window to the right and adjusting their size? Are you using TeXShop or some combination of Editor and Previewer (e.g., BBEdit and Skim)? If you're using a recent TeXShop have you tried Single Window Mode (Window->Use One Window) and blow it up Full Screen.
