[OS X TeX] El Capitan experiences

I've now installed El Capitan on two different machines. There are some problems I've run into that led me to revert to Yosemite.
1. Apple's Mail program causes some grief. Mailboxes are in some cases duplicated during conversion to El Capitan---an easily fixed but irritating issue. Much more serious is the disappearance of all (tens of thousands) messages from my main account. In addition, no connection to my incoming POP server or my outgoing SMTP server seems possible via Mail.
2. A number of programs I value are compromised---Default Folder, TotalFinder (a Finder extension) among them.
3. TeXShop 3.54 changed behavior after the update to El Capitan. The preview window now renders text too heavily, and, when using the magnifier in the preview window (the one that magnifies a part of the window, not the entire window) the result is now essentially unreadable, with very low-resolution bitmaps being displayed instead of a re-rendering of part of the pdf at higher resolution. (On both machines, System Preferences/General/Use LCD font smoothing ... is not checked.)
So, be sure to make a bootable backup before trying El Capitan.
Michael
