I forgot to mention, if you are in Full Screen mode you exit that mode by moving the mouse pointer to the top of the screen so the Menu Bar shows and clicking on Window->Exit Full Screen menu item.

The green traffic-light button does this too.
It toggles in–out of Full-Screen mode — at least that what it does on my MacBook Pro, under Yosemite.
