Howdy,
After testing a bit (Patrick was willing to send me his beamer document and associated files) I do believe the problem is related to the way beamer saves information in a frame as well as the way synctex deals with that. If I use TeXworks to see how synctex behaves there I note that in going from Preview to Source always selects the \end{frame} line just as TeXShop does. When going from Source to Preview TeXworks does a somewhat better job than TeXShop but I believe that's because it adds an extra step to the information supplied by synctex and searches in the region around the place noted in synctex to make a smaller selection.
I'm still interested in Josep Maria Font's problem with a book rather than a slide show. If he's willing to send me the source I'll play with it a bit to see what I can observe.
