The cause of Helman’s crash is now known for sure, and is related to using LuaLaTeX from the 2017 TeX Live distribution. Switching back to the 2016 is a temporary fix. It is not related to iCloud. This problem has been fixed; expect a new version of TeXShop in a few days. Dick Koch
