a) Try downloading a copy from my web site:

	http://pages.uoregon.edu/koch/texshop/texshop.html <http://pages.uoregon.edu/koch/texshop/texshop.html>

b) When TeXShop first runs, it creates a folder named TeXShop in ~/Library, the user's home library folder, ofren hidden.
Sometimes this folder has incorrect permissions that don't let this folder be created. Correct the permissions

c) Ignoring your statement that this Mac is new, if this user moved material from an older machine, they might have
moved an older version of TeXShop. In that case, search for and remove all older versions.

Incidentally, within the last year I bought.a new machine and did NOT run into this problem. So look for anything
unusual, like the software insralled before MacTeX.

Unfortunately, when I tried to launch the program I rec’d the error message: 'TeXShop cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure TeXShop works with this version of macOS’.”
