[OS X TeX] TeXShop 3.77 slow opening source files?

Sources are in a subfolder of ~/Documents (tree depth 3 and more down from there), but neither that nor Desktop is visible to iCloud (just files/settings associated with a few select apps: GarageBand, iBooks, Reminders, system Preferences.

There _is_ a symlink to ~/Documents in ~/Dropbox, but normally Dropbox is NOT open; I use it only infrequently. I also use iDrive, but without Continuous data protection or even scheduled backups —just on-demand.

The external Time Machine drive is NOT normally mounted; I run Time Machine backup only on-demand.

I do use a 3rd-party anti-malware program, namely, Intego NetBarrier/VirusBarrier, but I see no difference in TeXShop file open speed with that disabled.

This seems like an interminable delay compared to what I recall as a MUCH snappier performance with preceding versions. I _never_ recall seeing the ?spinning beach ball? before when opening a source file.

Open Activity Monitor, sort by name and look for all the mdworker and other md applications to see if they are showing heavy activity.
