I had no problems downloading and installing MacTex-2018, and then using
http://linorg.usp.br/CTAN/systems/texlive/tlnet
to update packages.
Special thanks to Dick Koch, Herb Schulz ans so many people in the MacTex and Tex Live group, for all the work they do, keeping us pampered in the comfort zone.
