[OS X TeX] .sty files listed as Kind STY and Asian characters

Why might .sty files now appear in the macOS Catalina (10.15.7) Finder as having Kind

	STY XX

where XX are actually some Asian (Japanese?) characters?

And how to get rid of those two trailing characters?
