Howdy,
MacTeX-2021 is in a pretest phase and could use testing if folks are willing. If you are interested please read the information at <http://ftp.math.utah.edu/pub/tlpretest/>. YOu can then download mactex-20210225.pkg and mactex-ghostscript-9.53.3-20210225.pkg from one of the sites listed at <https://www.tug.org/texlive/mirmon/>. There also is a BasicTeX-2021 pretest candidate, mactex-basictex-20210225.pkg, there if you want to test that.
some important notes:
1) MacTeX is appropriate for both Intel and Arm macs because it has universal binaries compiled from the same sources. So Intel and Arm machines are on equal footing and will be for many years to come.
2) If you use X11 on an Arm machine, you should install the new version of X11 before installing MacTeX. The reason is that gs-X11 needs to link with an Arm version of the X11 Library, so if that isn't present, the installer will link gs to gs-noX11.
3)It may take a few days before the pretest packages are available at all of the pretest repositories. Please be patient.
4)Typically the previous year's TeX Live distribution (i.e., TeX Live 2020 in this case) has been frozen, i.e., no more updates are available, once the nexgt version goes into pretest. This year there is an attempt to keep updating TeX Live 2020 during the pretest period.
Good Luck,
Herb Schulz
