[OS X TeX] TeXShop and biblatex

All,

Does anyone out there know how to make TeXShop and biblatex play nicely together?

I’m working on a grant proposal that requires bibliographic entries in footnotes and from what I’m reading using biblatex appears to be the easiest way to make this happen. (I normally use BibTeX and natbib for bibliographies.) But I haven’t been able to get even a minimal example using biblatex to compile with TeXShop. Here’s the minimal example:

\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage{biblatex}
\addbibresource{mathreal.bib}

\begin{document}

Sample text  \cite{maddy97}

\printbibliography

\end{document}

Running LaTeX via TeXShop on this produces the following error:

[Text  Description automatically generated]

Ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff
