You can indeed use a symlink (or alias) to /Library/TeX/Root/texmf-dist/tex (same as /usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/tex, but year-independent). You'll need the original archive though if you want the Textures-specific files like option_keys, pics.tex, CrayolaColors, etc.

Something I forgot: from this archive, you also need to install additional files not included or incompatible with those in MacTeX:

Inputs/•LaTeX/contrib/draftcopy/draftcopy.cfg
Inputs/•LaTeX/graphics/color.cf
Inputs/•LaTeX/graphics/graphics.cfg
Inputs/•LaTeX/graphics/textures.def

The most important is the last, which is the Textures driver file for the color and graphics/x LaTeX packages. There is no textures.def in MacTeX, you need this one which was commissioned specially by Blue Sky Research.

The files color.cfg and graphics.cfg counteract the default settings in MacTeX and make sure the [textures] option is selected by default.

draftcopy.cfg does the same for the draftcopy package (I can't tell more, I've never used it).
