[OS X Emacs] compile-next-makefile: compilation errors with strange characters

Could you try to use

	(prefer-coding-system 'utf-8)

in ~/.emacs? It will switch the *compilation* buffer into UTF-8  
presentation (could be there are other ways). In mode-line you can  
see which encoding-system is active. By pressing the mouse cursor  
onto this field, an explanatory buffer will open.
