This behaviour is VERY dangerous.  Perhaps it's Mac-like, but I think  
there should be a clear op-out for new users.  I have disbled cua- 
mode in my .emacs for as long as that mode has been introduced.  I  
believe in GNU emacs this mode is disabled by default.
