[OS X Emacs] Installing imaxima in Aquamacs

Dear list,

what is the proper way to install additional packages in Aquamacs?
I tried to install imaxima by compiling it and putting it into  
Aquamacs' site-lisp directory, which gives me an error when starting.

Is there an obvious mistake that I made?
