Folks, I recommend against the use of longlines-mode for the very  
reason that it is buggy and ill-designed.

In a modern Emacs such as Aquamacs (or also in CVS builds of Emacs  
23), use the built-in soft-wrapping (available via the Options menu,  
right at the top).
