[OS X Emacs] trouble with ediff? or standard behavior? (was: trouble with ediff after updating Aquamacs)

you are right, I forget to mention the version of the OS. It
is 10.11.6.

Following the advice of David, I ran Aquamacs without
customizations. I ran ediff on two buffers. Again the
control panel did not appear.
