Let me chime in that I do the reverse of that myself---I'm lucky though
to be running NeXTstep with Display PostScript on my Cube at home, so
.eps files don't need previews, and render at their full resolution, so
I can place a .eps file which TeX has made into Altsys Virtuoso, and
place whatever elements I need in it.
Also, Instant TeX has a wonderful facility for creating a .eps in situ
via Services....
