[Mac OS X TeX] fonts and ligatures

fi and fl should be in most fonts one purchases (at the least, a letter
pair for the hard-coded slot). The others are unusual and typically
limited to ``expert'' font sets, so this matter is font-specific as you
surmise. Adobe is decent about doing expert sets, as are some other
foundries.

The selection is large enough one need no longer pick a font merely on
the availability of an expert set (when I bought Adobe Garamond it was
the only font so available, hence my purchase), so the question becomes
what sort of font would you like?
