[OS X TeX] extendible quotients

I seem to recall having come across one such structure, which was 
taking up so much space in the line, that I resorted to something like 
the following hack:

$^{(S/R)}/_{(T/R)}$
\vfill\eject\bye

I may've finessed it somewhat with \hbox and \raise or \lower as well, 
probably threw in a \smash as well....

I'd hope there'd be a better solution on CTAN or in 
http://groups.google.com (searching for related / descriptive terms and 
comp.text.tex)...
