This is what I have in my .emacs to get monaco size 14:

(set-frame-font 
"-apple-monaco-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-m-140-mac-roman")
(add-to-list
 'default-frame-alist
 '(font . "-apple-monaco-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-m-140-mac-roman"))

You can instead put in some other font specification, e.g. for Courier 16.
