[OS X TeX] XeTeX 0.86 & TexShop 1.35e typesets nonsense

Are you still able to run pdflatex from the command line?  You could 
just use the command line on a flat text file while you debug the IDE.

BTW - what happens if you change the file encoding back to MacOSRoman?
