Did you install 
<http://www.dante.de/CTAN/fonts/metrics/w-a-schmidt/pad.zip> for 
Garamond?  You'll find the How-To under 
<http://www.dante.de/CTAN/fonts/metrics/w-a-schmidt/pad.txt>.
