[OS X TeX] names of Appendices

it sure put me on the right track.
I've now found a solution that helps me as well but avoids changing the .toc. Flipside is that it doesn't look as good in the document anymore. But the Contents area looks fine.

\usepackage{appendix}
..
\appendix
\appendixpage
\addappheadtotoc
