[OS X TeX] r.tex?

On January 5, 2005, 10:57 AM, a file called r.tex appeared along with 
book.tex, book.aux, book.idx etc. I finally opened it to see what was in 
it and here it is below, in its entirety.
What does it do and do I have to keep it as it does not seem to have 
ever been upgraded.

It does not seem to be upgraded. So, the main question is do I have to 
keep it and
