Now that you mention clamXav, I remember: the software I was thinking  
about was munpack, mentioned at the page <http://www.creativeeyes.at/ 
tools/clamav.php> on a script for having clamXav scan incoming email  
automatically. It turns out I had misunderstood: munpack is, rather,  
a utility for decoding MIME-encoded attachments.

As to clamXav, after having noted that it replaces the default clamav  
user in Tiger by another clamav user with different characteristics,  
I decided to not reinstall clamXav for the moment, after a new  
Install & Archive of Tiger, and instead to wait for a couple of  
months to see whether Apple, after ditching Virex for .Mac with  
Tiger, will come up with a replacement in some time, and whether the  
default Tiger clamav user is indeed just a leftover from Tiger Server  
or an voluntary addition in relation to this conjectured future  
replacement.
