\renewcommand{\l at figure}{\@dottedtocline{1}{1em}{2.8em}}
\makeatother

Play with the lengths to get the desired effect. The first length is  
an indentation, the second the width reserved for the number. See  
page 34 of the old Companion, if you have it available.
