Hmm, weird.
I am using the latest experimental texlive i-package.

This is what I get :

** WARNING ** This .map file looks like a dvips format fotmap file.

I can see something is wrong. Any ideas ?
What is that .map file ?

I thought xdvipdfmx was a native part of MacOsX (independent of TeX)
but that fontmap file maybe comes with the texlive i-package ?
( I have the TeX i-package installed as well)
