[OS X TeX] confusion about TeXShop's Ruler

Hi,

I am not sure if I understand the use of TeXShop's "Ruler" with
styles, tab, alignment, spacing and list options correctly.

First it looks as if this could be a tool not for editing tex but for
writing text documents like a regular texteditor does (emphasizing
words with bold, formatting paragraphs as lists etc.).
[Why not? Could be nice sometimes to use the same application for
editing tex documents and to write regular text notes.]

But then I saw that each the entire document gets bold, itemized
centered etc. So this doesn't make much sense when writing text -
when editing tex either.

So, is it a bug or is it just a kind of leftover that actually
doesn't have any meaning at all?

Steffen
