This happens with TeXShop.

texhash doesn't help.

As described in the OT this happens randomly after awaking my machine

Ok, this gives me
darwin6.8/texmf.cnf) => 1
kdebug:kpse_normalize_path (/usr/local/teTeX/bin/texmf.cnf) => 1
kdebug:kpse_normalize_path (/usr/local/teTeX/texmf.cnf) => 1
texmf.cnf) => 1
kdebug:fopen(/usr/local/teTeX/texmf.cnf, r) => 0xa000e790
kdebug:fopen(/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf, r) =>
but nothing refering to ttfucs.sty
