[OS X TeX] bold sf in memoir

It seems that memoir does not acknowledge boldface sans serif. The  
command \sffamily\bfseries in memoir has the same effect as plain  
\sffamily (i.e. unbolded sf) while in regular latex it correctly  
produces the boldface. Does anyone know what is the reason for this  
or how to break this behavior?
