[OS X TeX] What is the ``right place'' for map files ?

If it's only one such MAP file fragment, then /usr/local/teTeX/share/ 
texmf.local/fonts/map/dvips should be OK. Packages with a few of such  
MAP file fragments, like antt, cm-super, lm, create their own  
directories in /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/fonts/map/dvips and  
store all inside them.

Of course you can start with a new directory /usr/local/teTeX/share/ 
texmf.local/fonts/map/dvips/misc to contain to contain all those  
miscellaneous MAP file fragments ...
