it works for me in TeXShop 2.09 (old, without a or b).

If nothing helps, not even a newer version of TeXShop, try the  
*EXPERIMENTAL* tex and LaTeX BETA (could be it's called the LaTeX  
update) i-Packages. That's my working environment.
