[OS X TeX] Update of two i-Packages

I installed the new TeXLive i-package with XeTeX (also for ppc)
without problems. Compiling a particular document with xelatex produces
the same pdf-file, same layout, looks identical.
The only problem was that the new value of $PATH is
"/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/TeXLive/bin/
powerpc-apple-darwin-current"
so that "which xelatex" gives
"/usr/local/TeXLive/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current/xelatex",
but in emacs (using the latest version of the Carbon Emacs Package)
via "Shell Command .." the command "echo $PATH"
returns
"/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/
local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/
i386-apple-darwin-current"
( the command "echo $SHELL" returns "/bin/bash") so that
within emacs "which xelatex" returns
"/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current/xelatex".
This means that running xelatex from within emacs would still use the
old XeTeX.
Adding
(setenv "PATH" "/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/
local/TeXLive/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current")
to my .emacs file solved the problem. But is there a better
solution ? ( I am sure there is.)
Thanks,
P.
