Try teh hyperref 'backref' option. It lists the pages on which a  
certain item was referenced in the list of references. Of course this  
does not help for an index, where the whole point is to generate  
those references, but in a bibliography it is rather haandy -- even  
more so in the electronic version because of the hyperlinks.
